Abstract
Scissors bite is an occlusion which the buccal cusp of the mandibular molar occludes more lingually than the palatal cusp of the maxillary molar. It is important to treat scissors bite at an early stage because it can lead to masticatory deficiency, facial asymmetry, and temporomandibular joint disorders. This case is a 12-year-old boy with bilateral scissors bite, mild crowding and deep bite. On the left side, multiple teeth showed scissors bite, and analysis using CBCT showed that the scissors bite was due to excessive buccolingual inclination of the teeth. In order to correct the dental scissors bite, it was important to eliminate occlusal interference by molar intrusion. Therefore, mini-implants were used with fixed orthodontic appliances on the buccal and palatal side of the maxilla and mandible. In addition, by using criss-cross elastics to increase rotational moment, the treatment was completed shortly. The total treatment period was 15 months. Diagnosing the exact cause of the scissors bite and using a combination of available methods will help achieve the treatment goals efficiently.
